Trick
From GenieWiki
A trick is a term used especially in scenario design to refer to an optical illusion, creative idea, stylish effect or innovative solution to a problem. A trick is a vague term that can take on many forms, from a technique in play (such as dancing with fast units to avoid return fire) to a creative use of objects in map design to represent a geographical feature, to a unique dynamics effect in a custom scenario not normally achievable. As such giving an exact definition for the word is notoriously difficult, however there are certain properties required in order that something can be called a trick. These generally include
- Creativity - Tricks tend surprise make a person who witnesses them due to their originality and novelty. This could be called the Wow! effect
- Apparent impossibility - Often, but not always, a trick would normally appear to be impossible using conventional approaches. A trick may incorporate a workaround or require special knowledge. Many tricks are based on exploitation of bugs. It could also take advantage of an outside program, for example using GeniEd2 to garrison many units inside a transport. Seeing such a trick often makes the observer wonder how the trick was achieved.
- Style - Tricks are often very impressive (visually, strategically etc). They may simply be a more efficient, graceful or intelligent way of performing an ordinary task.
