Is Modding/AI editing part of scenario design

Though these two areas are certainly something that can enhance a scenario, are they actually a part of scenario design as a whole, or two separate but related areas? Since modding and AI editing technically don't even require a scenario (e.g. an AI for random maps) I guess they are their own separate disiplines, though they do also definitely warrant a mention in this article. Whether they are part of the definition of SD though is what I'm questioning. Richard 04:02, 14 May 2006 (EDT)

AI is a separate part. However, I can't seem to find any scripters willing to help me out with an article (I know a bit on AI, but (IMO) not enough to write an article). Also, we should add links for AI and Modpacking into the SD article. Cesar

The quick answer is yes.

Hey DiGiT! I'll try to come up with something that will be appropriate. However the quick answer is yes (modding and scripting can be considered under the broader term of scenario design). Of course the question is really not what SD'ers think about modding and scripting but how the modders and scripters define themselves. I've only dealt with this from an SD standpoint at Age of Wiki at AOE3H, but perhaps that might help you, or me, or someone else to write a good paragraph about the issue. - AK

Age of Wiki Scenario Design

Let me know what you think.

OK, hopefully that takes care of the concern. However I am still concerned for Modding, RMS, and AI scripting. That is I'm thinking that a similar 'note' will be needed there also.

I agree, Modding, AI etc. are both a part of SD and a disipline in themselves. Your work on this article is much appreciated and I think we should look at making an article about the topic on wikipedia too. The only reason I haven't attempted to so far is that I don't know anything about SD in other games and where you draw the line with level design for games in general. Using the info here and at AgeofWiki I'm sure there will at least be enough for a start.
By the way, we should always sign our comments on talk pages with four tildes(~~~~) and use a colon (:) at the start of our replies, or multiple colons as needed, to indent each new reply to a conversation. Don't be distracted by my inability to follow these guidelines (I didn't previously sign my above comment below DiGiT, sigh...) :)
If you want to talk about the project, wiki conventions or anything like that, feel free to mail, skype or MSN me!

Thanks for pointing out the use of the 'colon.' Is that convention for 'Talk' only or can we use it in articles too?
About Wikipedia...I once had a hand in creating an article there on SD that read much like the ones here and on Age of Wiki. I think it was removed for some reason because I can't find it anymore. Anyway, I noticed the level design article there paraphrases some of my old description. Perhaps it was too much of a definition and too general. Still, I wonder why they allowed the 'Level Design' definition. I've recently discovered that some old HG'ers are admins at Wikipedia. I also wondered if that wasn't the reason for the removal of the article. What with familiarity breeding contempt and power corrupting and all. :P Anastasia 09:01, 14 May 2006 (EDT)
I checked the SD subject at wikipedia and couldn't find anything or mention of it on Level design. I'll have to check the deletion logs and hopefully we can find what happened to it. The colons are only a talk page convention, and we use an extra colon for each new passage we add, with paragraphs in the same edit indented the same amount. After they go too far to the right we can just revert back to the left or whatever. Richard 23:11, 21 May 2006 (CDT)

Need to move article to Scenario design

Before I forget, we need to move the article there because it's not named right. For example if I wanted to link to it like this: In scenario designing, map design is an important concept, it wouldn't work and we'd have to go through the hassle of going In scenario designing... (use Edit to see the code, so you can see what I mean) every time we ever use the word. I don't think I can move a page though, so could you move it DiGiT? Richard 23:28, 4 June 2006 (CDT)
