Format of article

Great to see you being bold and making your first (and new) article, Terry!

Gosh, I hate to go and edit it straight away, but we do unfortunately have a few 'rules' about the style and formatting of an article. Basically there are just two things we need to change, and one I've already done. Please don't think that someone editing an article undoes your work or makes it less important as a contribution - a wiki is built up by continuous editing to make articles bigger and better. The first thing is 'dead end links' - you can find these by clicking on 'special' down the bottom left there, and you'll see a section that contains articles that don't link to any other articles here on GenieWiki. You may well find that there are none now (I've got rid of the few that were there), though there will no doubt be more in the future as more articles are created. Basically a wiki is designed to be a web of ideas that are interconnected - we want every page to be linked to once and then link once to another article.

Of course, at this stage a lot of those links will be red - this shows we want the article but haven't been able to make it yet. It's also a good source of potential articles for authors to work on if they need ideas.

Anyway, the other thing is the style of the article. Now at Wikipedia they'd have style rules for every article - I think we should be a little less strict in this area, and allow for a little individuality and sense of humor, though the thing with this article is that it's part of the whole AoK Civilizations articles, so they need to have a consistent format, which will probably a little more 'formal' than it is now. Of course, we still need to figure out what format that is, and your area on team bonuses/civ bonuses will no doubt be one of the staples that hold the format together.

You haven't done anything wrong, I just wanted to explain why I've changed it a little, and why it will probably change a little more later on. Thankyou so much for making this article, and please don't let me scare you off! Richard 17:30, 4 June 2006 (CDT)

Copyrighted Material

I don't suppose we can both say this is GNU FDL and copyrighted. I don't think it's a big issue to post the game's official documentation here though, however we need to talk about it. I think we should have a policy on copying text right out of the game's help files, history etc for the games. I also question whether we should just repeat that material here, or rewrite it ourselves with other material included. It would be nice to have copies of this sort of stuff on the wiki regardless of whether we include it in civ articles or not though. For the mean time though, I don't think it does too much harm to have it there. There is probably however a legal obligation in terms of using MediaWiki software to pay some respect to copyrighted material. Richard 22:52, 4 June 2006 (CDT)
