AoK units
Archer
- Hit Points: 30
- Attack: 4
- Range: 4
An archer is the most basic unit of the foot archer line. It is created at the Archery Range in the Feudal Age and is available to all civilizations. Groups are generally used as a counter against early infantry units.
Crossbowman
- Hit Points: 35
- Attack: 5
- Attack Range: 5
A famous soldier of the Middle Ages, these units are armed with crossbows, a weapon common to most civilisations around the world. When in the Castle Age, researching crossbowman will upgarde all Archers. Although in history crossbowman could take as long as a minute to load, the crossbowmen in AoK load and reload as quickly as any other archer for unit-balancing purposes.
Skirmisher
- Hit Points: 30
- Attack: 2
- Attack Range: 4
The skirmisher is a lightly armoured unit armed with a wooden shield and javelin. In the game they are an exceptionally good counter-unit for any archers. Unfortunately, because their attack bonus is only effective against archers, they are no hinderence for infantry and cavalry. In history they were a rabble of poorly-trained men (probably peasents) with basic weapons who were thrown into the front line to harass the enemy army and act as decoys etc, much like the auxilaries of the Roman Empire.
Elite Skirmisher
- Hit Points: 35
- Attack: 3
- Attack Range: 5
An upgrade of the skirmisher, these elite javilineers carry more advanced armour and weapons as well as the addition of a helmet. They represent the skirmishing units of the Age of Imperialism. Also they were designed to balance the game, because the an advanced counter-unit for archers was required for later in games when those units are far more powerful. In history they were troops trained specially to disrupt enemy formations and weaken armies by keeping up a heavy fire of projectiles.
Elite Cho Ko Nu
- Hit Points: 50
- Attack: 8
- Attack Range: 4
The Chinese were especially clever at constructing crossbow-mechanisms because they were the civilisation that actually invented the crossbow. The chu ko nu was a rapid-firing crossbow which was loaded with several bolts. By pulling the trigger the operator could keep up a bombardment of bolts as long as he was quick, although the power was not as great as a single-bolt crossbow. The chu ko nu was designed to keep up with the fast-firing Mongol bows when Ghengis Khan invaded China.
Longbowman
- Hit Points: 35
- Attack: 6
- Attack Range: 5
The Longbowman is the unique unit of the Britons civilisation. Based on the the skilled Welsh archers or medieval Britain, these units are armed with yew bows with range exceeded only by the trebuchet. Loyal to history, their arrows rain down on enemies, making them an exceptionally powerful massed force on any battlefield.
Elite Longbowman
- Hit Points: 40
- Attack: 7
- Attack Range: 6
With so many men of Britain training with the longbow, the ones who became especially good might be chosen to make up an elite corp of archers or serve in high positions such as a king or lord's bodyguard. In the game, elite longbowmen can fire further than any other archer when fully upgraded.
Lord de Graville
- Hit Points: 60
- Attack: 6
- Attack Range: 5
Jean Malet de Graville was the High Master of Crossbowmen in 1425, the reason he is portrayed as an arbalestier in Age of Kings. He appears in the Joan of Arc campaign to play the part of army General Commander of the archers and crossbowmen. True to history, he fought with the Maid at the relief of Orléans and in the siege of Paris.
Robin Hood
- Hit Points: 110
- Attack: 11
- Attack Range: 5
Robin Hood is a hero represented in Age of Empires II. The history of the gallent outlaw is well-known and and inspirational for scenario design which is why Ensemble Studios added him into the Age of Kings Map Editor when units were not able to be named with triggers. Robin Hood himself is portrayed by a longbowman unit with increased HP and attack, although with not as much range as an elite longbowman.
AoK:TC only
These units are available with The Conquerors Expansion Pack installed.
Plumed Archer
- Hit Points: 50
- Attack: 5
- Attack Range: 4
The Plumed Archer appears as a new unit in the Conquerors Expansion as the Mayan civilisation's unique unit. They are the Mesoamerican equivalent of cavalry archers because, like the eagle warrior, they can run as fast as a horse. Their advantage is that they are slightly better armoured than normal archers and thus take a better pounding in battle. They are portrayed as a barefoot man wearing a colourful waistcoat and a destinctive hat of plumes on his head. Interestingly they have no quiver, and so have their arrows stuck in the ground at their side when attacking.
Elite Plumed Archer
- Hit Points: 65
- Attack: 5
- Attack Range: 5
