In the genie games, players have resource stockpiles and use these resources when creating new buildings or units and researching technologies. The four basic resources in Age of Empires II are Food, Wood, Gold, and Stone, and in Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds they are Food, Carbon, Nova, and Ore. These play central roles in all the genie games, with control of resources and disruption of resource gathering focal points of any battle.

Behind the scenes

Behind the scenes, there are actually many more "resources" than the basic four. Genie treats basically any player data as a resource, including population, population limit, and much more. Many of these resources can be "tributed" and examined with effects and conditions by using AOK Trigger Studio to access those that are normally hidden.
