Random map

A random map is a map that is randomly generated by the computer, randomly selecting a seed number that corresponds to a certain map. In Age of Empires random maps are limited to those supplied with the game and their mechanism of creation is not clear. In Age of Empires II: The Conquerors random map scripting was introduced, allowing the player to make their own random maps. These have proved popular in multiplayer gameplay, and have also been used by scenario designers to unlock hidden terrains, units and other possibilities.
