Pasting a negative sign is a trick used first in Age of Kings and later Age of Empires which takes advantage of a bug in both games allowing the user to contradict the editor's rules and use a negative sign (-) in certain quantity boxes. This has been used to achieve some interesting effects. In Age of Empires the only known application of the trick is to insert negative numbers into a player's resource stockpile (for example to represent a debt, or deny a player resources even on hardest). The first (and only) known use of the trick in AoE is in Andrea Rosa's A Short History of Lost Sumeria [1], where the player begins with a negative gold stockpile . The trick has several different applications in Age of Kings.
