Chemistry
From GenieWiki
Chemistry is a technology in Age of Empires II that increases the attack of all non-gunpowder missle units and changes their appearance to shoot flaming missiles. Researching it also allows you to train gunpowder units. Chemistry is similar to the alchemy technology in Age of Empires. It adds a small but significant boost to ranged units which can prove the difference in a close battle. In scenario design the flaming projectiles created after researching chemistry can have an impressive visual effect, e.g. as a form of magic.
Background
Chemistry is the science of matter at the atomic to molecular scale, dealing primarily with collections of atoms (such as molecules, crystals, and metals). Chemistry deals with the composition and statistical properties of such structures, as well as their transformations and interactions to become materials encountered in everyday life. Chemistry is a relatively new field, having only emerged in the last few centuries. In the Middle Ages and before this chemistry was known as alchemy, which was largely concerned with transforming base metals into gold. Although modern chemistry shows this is not possible, alchemists made many important scientific discoveries in the process. One of the most significant technologies unlocked by chemistry was gunpowder, discovered first by the Chinese and then by the Europeans many centuries afterwards. This discovery changed warfare drastically as well as leading to other applications and further technological developments.
