AOK talk:SOLDIER
From GenieWiki
I'm not liking the current format... the images run together and look a bit confusing. I think that could be solved with a bit more content for each unit, and personally I think that could be solved by using the historical information found in the game manual, if we would be allowed to use that. zyxomma100
Well, I grew impatient, and decided to type of some of the text. If you look at the first half of the page as opposed to the second half, I think you'll agree that the first half looks better, when the manual text helping to separate the images. IMO, this is the format we should use for all the unit pages, but I'd like to wait for some feedback from some of you guys, so I know that I'm not wasting my time. zyxomma100
We're better off without the historical quotes. We should use them only for heroes. Besides, anyone can find these quotes at the game's reference book. Cesar
- I like the inclusion of historical info in moderation. I think it's better with the manual info, though I wonder too on whether repeating the ES info is really much use. Then again, without it the unit info has very little content and researching/rewriting it ourselves is a mountain of work. Details of their strategic use would compliment the historical info well for size.
- The icons look nice an uniform, though perhaps the actual graphic of the unit as well, with a template including e.g. name and icon at the top, with a uniform picture from a certain angle and size (based on the size of the unit) and the unit stats would be great. Then there is of course the issue that some icons are just a cropped version of the graphic, which creates repitition. For upgrades, I think we should try to avoid repeating info whenever possible, so perhaps arranging them as a 'line' for all units and avoiding any repeated info (e.g. cost) would be good. It looks very good as it is and this is just my thoughts on the optimal design, probably not something that will be feasible given the time required to carry it out on all units. I'm not sure if adding info from the manual is a good idea. For 2 reasons:
- Anyone can read the manual to get the same information;
- The article might get way too long;
Therefore we should only stick (IMO) to a minor description on unit-line (like the one that we have now, without heavy ressearching), civilization (if it's an UU) and what units are strong/weak against the one being described. Cesar
